"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

In 2018, the four Houses (Laidlaw, Learmonth, Berry and Young) commenced a new Service Learning Program. This involves all College students supporting a number of important organisations in Hamilton and the wider region.

Young House has formed a partnership with the Hamilton Uniting Church. Senior students will be working in the Uniting Church soup kitchen to serve meals once a week. They will also work with the First Bite program to distribute meals to local families. Students will be rostered on with a supporting staff member. Middle Years students will be putting together care packs for families in need, including stationary, sanitary and other essential household items.

Learmonth House continue to build on their very special relationship with Mulleraterong. Four students visit the Centre weekly, participating in activities and interacting with the clients. Learmonth will also organise and run a “Learmonth Fete” during a lunchtime in early Term 2; proceeds from this fate will be donated to Mulleraterong to assist in financing one or more of their programs.

Laidlaw House have developed a relationship with the Hamilton and District Rural Australians for Refugees. The first task for Laidlaw in 2018 will be running a major fundraiser via a film night. This will involve the selling of tickets, publicity, food on the night and the technical organisation. Our Laidlaw students will also put together welcome packs and are currently exploring the possibility of assisting with tutoring.

Berry House mentor groups have recognised the benefits of collegiality and a mutual approach towards demonstrating gratitude. For this reason, each junior mentor group have joined forces with a senior mentor to support their chose charity.  E.g.

  • Indigenous Literacy Foundation supports literacy needs of Indigenous Australians in remote, outback locations.
  • ‘Boots For All’ aims to promote an active and socially inclusive Australia through the promotion of sport.
  • The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, who have and/do support our wonderful school families.
