SENIOR YEARS
Emerge
The Emerge program recognises that senior students are young adults ready to take responsibility for their own personal learning. Choice and agency are important, and the three-year Emerge program is designed with that in mind.
At Year 10, the core curriculum (English, Maths, Science, PE and Health and Wellbeing) is complemented with an additional 20 periods chosen from diverse subject offerings, including VET courses and Unit 1 and 2 subjects. Each student also participates in Emerge, an additional four periods per cycle that provides students with access to learning support, study skills sessions, coaching, masterclasses, careers advice and preparation for work experience placements.
Our team of senior staff work closely with students, their mentor, and parents/guardians to help them select the best course of study.
Consultation with the career teachers, conversations with subject teachers and close reading of student reports all helps our staff to assist each student to determine their Emerge learning program.
In Year 11, students continue their study of English and take on an additional five subjects; students can access some Unit 3 and 4 subjects.
In Year 12, students usually study English and an additional four subjects.
Our senior students attend small group and individual sessions with the dedicated Careers Practitioner and receive additional support from VCE specific teaching staff.
The Hamilton and Alexandra College is proud to offer a diverse range of VCE and VETDSS courses.
