SENIOR YEARS
Senior Years - Learning Life
At The Hamilton and Alexandra College our learning community encourages academic excellence and engagement of the whole person.
We value curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Our teachers employ best practice and work together to inspire our students and foster independent and active learning in their students, both inside and outside of the classroom. College students develop skills and knowledge that prepares them for a future world of work and equips them to be exemplary global citizens with strong personal values.
We welcome you to the Emerge program and invite you to partner with us as we work together, student, parent, and teacher on an exciting final three years of secondary schooling.
The Emerge program recognises that our students are young adults ready to take responsibility for their own personal learning. Choice and agency are important, and we have designed our three year Emerge program with that in mind.
At year 10 the core curriculum (English, Maths, Science, PE and Health and Wellbeing) is complemented with an additional 20 periods chosen from diverse subject offerings from the year 10 program, VET courses and Unit 1 and 2 subjects. Each student also participates in Emerge, an additional four periods per cycle that provides students with access to learning support, study skills sessions, coaching, Masterclasses, Careers advice and prepare for work experience placements. Students will take responsibility for this part of the program and with teacher guidance design a bespoke experience of independent learning.
In year 11 students continue their study of English and take on an additional five subjects; students can access some Unit 3 and 4 subjects.
In year 12 students usually study English and an additional four subjects.
The Hamilton and Alexandra College is proud to offer a diverse range of VCE and VETDSS courses.
We have a team of excellent staff who are experts in their subject and are recognised by their colleagues at a state and national level. It is the passion that each teacher has for their subject that fosters deep learning and allows our students to do their very best. I would encourage you to read some of the stories of our VCE students at the end of the handbook. These are stories of determined and committed young men and women who have taken charge of their own learning and are experiencing success.
The College curriculum offers each student the opportunity to engage, explore and emerge as the best that they can be. We welcome the opportunity to partner with you and emerge confidently into the future.
