Transition Programs
Our meticulously designed Junior and Senior School transition programs are geared towards alleviating the nerves commonly associated with the first day of school, ensuring a seamless and empowering transition for every student. Through carefully planned transitions, we aim to provide a supportive and enriching environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.
Piccino to Prep
Start Junior School with a positive experience
At The Hamilton and Alexandra College, we believe in nurturing students to reach their full potential. We encourage students entering prep to attend our transition sessions.
Transition is designed to provide a cohesive and supportive program for students moving from their Early Learning Service into their first year of Prep at our Junior School.
We aim to:
- establish a strong partnership between children enrolled for the following year, their families, Early Learning educators, the Prep classroom teacher and other members of the school community.
- assist our Prep teacher to get to know students and establish their initial needs for the beginning of Prep.
- create a positive impression of Prep and a familiarisation of the learning environment, prior to the commencement of the new school year.
- foster interaction between all Prep students.
- provide an opportunity for parents to interact with our Prep teacher and become informed about the Prep program.
Information Sessions
Our thorough transition program comprises one informal session, four formal classroom visits, and an Orientation Day.
The four formal sessions will take place on Thursday mornings (9:15am —10:00am) Term Four. The fifth session is a full day which is part of the Junior School Orientation Day program.
Our orientation sessions are designed to promote group work and social interactions, as well as help all students familiarise themselves with their new learning space and playground.
Year 6 to Year 7
Remove the nerves with the Year 7 transition program
The Middle Years program provides a special system of pastoral care, where Year 6 students get to know Senior School teachers and structure before starting in year 7.
Members of staff from both the Junior and Senior Schools liaise to ensure that the transition is smooth for all students.
Students travel to the Senior School each week to use facilities such as the Science Centre, Hospitality Centre, Sports Centre and Music and Performing Arts Centre.
