The Hamilton and Alexandra College
Equestrian Program

The Hamilton and Alexandra College boasts an exceptional Equestrian Centre, animated by weekly lessons and clinics, and providing a unique opportunity for day and boarding students to be involved in equestrian activities whilst at school.

We also offer agistment for boarders’ horses which is a wonderful comfort for many of our boarding students.

We are very proud of our unique facilities and our strong tradition of excellent equestrian programs at The Hamilton and Alexandra College. Students of all ages can participate in the equestrian program, from ELC to Year 12.

We offer weekly lessons with onsite and local coaches throughout the year for boarders and day students. We offer two subjects within the curriculum, Equine foundations and Equine Animal Systems which can be selected as electives in Year 8 and 9.

Riding classes encourage participation, effort, good sportsmanship and the development of equestrian skills.  We hold regular clinics run by guest instructors, and host events and competitions throughout each year.

The Equestrian Centre is located at our Myrniong Campus next to the Boarding Houses and the Junior Campus.

All students, including boarders, have access to this facility, in consultation with the Director of Horsemanship. In 2025, The Hamilton and Alexandra College opened a full competition-sized, undercover arena named The Wilma Hearn Equestrian Arena. This new facility ensures year-round access to facilities regardless of the weather.

Students are encouraged and supported to compete at interschool competitions including the Victorian Interschool Equestrian Championships and local competitions.
