Junior School
Junior School at
The Hamilton and Alexandra College
Prep - Year 6
The primary years are ones of discovery and increasing agency, but also the time when crucial foundations in literacy and numeracy are laid. In the Junior School, we seek to promote a supportive, rigorous, challenging, and productive learning environment. We teach with the Victorian Curriculum as our base and draw on the most current research about how students learn.
Our Junior School learning programs are designed to develop students’ natural communication and collaboration skills, an aim pursued through deep engagement with global issues, and through a rich specialist program offering Art, Drama, Music, Physical Education, and Mandarin Chinese.
Positive Education philosophies are embedded into our programs, through classroom initiatives designed to establish growth mindsets, signature strengths, increased resilience, and positive emotion.
Our in-class programs are supported with regular camps, which sees every year level from Year 1 through to Year 6 head off on overnight adventures. Each year level spends time at our Mirranatwa property focusing on social team building, outdoor education skills, and learning principles of sustainable land stewardship in a truely spectacular location.
The scholarship program at The Hamilton and Alexandra College awards students of character and potential who will make a significant contribution to the life of the school.
Junior School Ivy Scholarships are awarded for meritorious achievement, a passion for continuous learning and strong character strengths.
