The Hamilton and Alexandra College

Year 7 - Year 9

In the Middle Years of Year 7, 8, and 9, students are encouraged to develop a growth mindset, to be curious and commit to becoming independent thinkers. Students are encouraged to be confident, collaborative, and considerate young people, who are aware of their responsibility to their local communities and to addressing global challenges.

Year 7 - Engage

Our Year 7 Engage program supports the transition from primary into the secondary school environment and consolidates routines for effective learning while building character and knowledge. In addition to a strong core curriculum in English, Maths, Science, PE and the Humanities, students study either French or Mandarin Chinese, as well as co-curricular programs; creative and performing arts, digital technologies, and outdoor education. Year 7 is unique, in that every student has the opportunity to study music, and learn a brass, woodwind, string, or percussion instrument for the entire year.

Years 8 & 9 - Explore

Our Year 8 & 9 curriculum is designed to allow each student to find that thing that really sparks an interest, and which might be pursued further. Students complement their core studies by choosing from over 30 elective subjects, ranging from Equine Foundations, to Sports Coaching, to Architecture and Environments, and everything in between.

The Explore program finds a unique extension in our Year 9 Experience, which sees students travel and work together through programs in our local area, a week in metropolitan Melbourne, and an extended cultural and service trip to Vietnam
